Did you know that chocolate grows on trees? Thanks to the guided cacao farm tour and chocolate tasting I recently experienced, I now know that chocolate grows on trees in a rainforest environment, and I even got to taste a cacao bean!!! By the way, there are many stages the cacao bean goes through, but its exterior resembles a papaya! On Maui that can be confusing! LoL
Our tour began at the actual Ku’ia Estates Chocolate Factory in Lahaina, the largest chocolate factory in the state of Hawaii. After checking in with our tour guide, we enjoyed an informative and interesting ride to the farm. I especially enjoyed learning about the owner Gunnar, and how dedicated he is to sustainability and the Maui community.
You will be as amazed as I when you enter the private farm filled with thousands of cacao trees (over 20 acres!) and learn the stages of the cacao bean. Following our exploration through the variety of cacao bean trees (which is a great place for an intimate ceremony, by the way!), we "climbed" the stairs of the Treehouse, aka Rooftop Pavilion for our “farm to bar” experience.
Oh, the views from this treehouse were breathtaking. I could envision the romantic dinners, fun wine pairings, intimate wedding ceremonies, and necessary date nights that would occur here. Then I realized that it is close to Valentine's Day and couples should be getting engaged here! The ideas were just pouring through my mind as I tasted the 9 varieties of chocolates produced from this farm and factory. Chocolate Heaven. All while appreciating the expansive ocean views, West Maui Mountain views, and the serenity of the treehouse.
Then I had to know about the solar electric lighting, the area the private chef or caterer would set up, and all of the details that go into putting on an event in the best way possible. I dreamed of acoustic music playing in the background and the gorgeous photos and video that would be produced. It was an incredible vision that I can't wait to create for you!
